How to change the link on your Devotion product

Your Devotion product opens a web link when someone taps it with their phone. If you'd like to point it at a different link, you can do it yourself in a few minutes with a free app called NFC Tools. Just follow the steps below.

What you'll need

  • Your Devotion product (the card, keychain, or band)
  • Your phone
  • The new link you want it to open, ready to copy and paste

Download the NFC Tools app

Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for NFC Tools. It's free, and the icon is orange with a white NFC symbol. Install it and open it.

Make sure it's the one made by wakdev with the orange icon, so you're following the same screens as this guide.

Tap the "Write" tab

When the app opens you'll see a row of tabs across the top: Read, Write, Other, and Tasks. Tap Write.

Tap "Add a record"

On the Write screen, tap the Add a record button. A list of record types will appear.

Choose "URL/URI"

From the list, tap URL/URI. This is the option for web links.

Type or paste your new link

In the box that appears, enter the full link you want your product to open, for example https://my.devotion.to/your-page. The easiest way is to copy the link beforehand and paste it in so there are no typos. When it looks right, tap OK.

Double-check the link is exactly right before moving on.

Tap the "Write" button

You'll go back to the Write screen and see your new link listed as a record. Tap the big Write button (it may show a small number of bytes next to it, that's normal). A message will pop up asking you to approach your product.

Hold your product to your phone

While that message is showing, hold your Devotion product against your phone:

  • iPhone: touch it to the top edge of your phone, near the camera.
  • Android: touch it to the middle of the back of your phone.

Hold it steady for a second or two until you feel a little buzz and see a success checkmark. That's it, your new link is saved.

If nothing happens, move the product slowly around that area of your phone until it catches, and take off any thick or metal phone case, which can block the signal.

Test it

Close the app, then tap your product to your phone the same way you would normally. Your new link should open right up. Done!

If it isn't working

  • It says the tag is read-only or locked: the link on this product can't be changed. Reach out to us and we'll help.
  • Your phone won't detect it: make sure NFC is turned on in your phone's settings, remove any thick or metal case, and move the product slowly around the tap area.
  • The wrong page opens: repeat the steps and check your link is spelled exactly right, with no missing letters.
